Brenton Tarrant Sentenced to Life without Parole
The Australian man had pleaded guilty to murdering 51 people on March 15 of last year during a crime that shocked humanity.
He was sentenced on Thursday after a four-day sentencing hearing in New Zealand’s supreme court .
Life without parole means he’s effectively been handed a sentence for the term of his natural life and can live out the remainder of his days during a cell .
Tarrant had initially pled acquitted over the attack but later admitted to 51 counts of murder, 40 counts of attempted murder and one terrorism charge.

Over the past three days, 91 people have presented statements of their suffering and anger within the court, just metres faraway from the 29-year-old killer.
Several others also presented written statements.
Victims told AAP they need found power and strength in giving their statements, but equally, some are tired after an emotionally exhausting week.
“He doesn’t have the center (to speak) after being told over and once again what quite man he’s ,” one told AAP.
“He is defeated. He doesn’t want to ascertain eye-to-eye his victims any longer . Hate has been silenced.”
Tarrant opted to represent himself but didn’t speak at the sentencing.
On Thursday, his gaze was fixed on the Crown solicitors who argued for a life sentencing without parole, and Justice Cameron Mander, who agreed to lock him up and to throw away the key.
“If not here, then when?” Justice Mander asked.
“It is difficult to seem past the wickedness of every murder … however, you’re not only a murderer but a terrorist.”
Tarrant was sentenced to life without parole on each of the 51 counts of murder.
He was also sentenced for 12 years on each of the 40 attempted murder counts, to be served concurrently.
